Introducing Accordi Musicali Academy’s Cello Professors
Accordi Musicali Academy invites you to join a summer of music, artistry and inspiration set against the idyllic landscapes of Abruzzo, where music and tradition intertwine, offering students world-class education, chamber music coaching and masterclasses spanning violin, cello and piano.
Helmed by President Konstantin Ishkhanov and Artistic Director Giuliano Mazzoccante, with acclaimed contemporary composer Alexey Shor serving as Composer-in-Residence, the Accordi Musicali Academy returns for its highly anticipated second edition taking place from July 2 to August 12, 2025. This premier summer programme has quickly established itself as a haven for aspiring musicians, inviting up-and-coming talent from across the world to refine their craft under the guidance of some of the most celebrated musicians of our time.
This year, the academy is proud to welcome an illustrious trio of cello virtuosi, namely Alexander Chaushian, Marc Coppey, and Gustav Rivinius, each a veteran of their instrument with a career that spans the globe, to present masterclasses for the middle-pitched bowed string instrument of the violin family.
Alexander Chaushian: A laureate of both the Tchaikovsky and ARD Competitions and regarded as one of the finest cellists of his generation, Chaushian has graced legendary venues such as London’s Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall, Sala Verdi Milan, Konzerthaus Vienna, Suntory Hall Japan, the main Carnegie Hall New York, and Symphony Hall Boston, performing alongside prestigious ensembles such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, The London Mozart Players, The Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, The Boston Pops and The Armenian Philharmonic etc.
Marc Coppey: Coppey is one of the world’s leading cellists and is gaining recognition as an accomplished conductor on the international stage. He has performed under the direction of some of the greatest conductors, from Alan Gilbert and Emmanuel Krivine to Yan Pascal Tortelier, giving the world premieres of cello concerti by celebrated composers such as Jacques Lenot, Marc Monnet, Eric Tanguy, and the French premieres of works by Elliott Carter, Mantovani, and Erkki-Sven Tüür. He also serves as Music Director of the Zagreb Soloists and collaborates with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música.
Gustav Rivinius: Rivinius is the first and only German musician awarded a Gold Medal at the 1990 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. In addition, he received a special prize for the best interpretation of a Tchaikovsky composition, outperforming all other competitors. Since then, he has appeared with leading musicians, orchestras and conductors worldwide. A dedicated educator, Rivinius holds a prestigious professorship at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken and shares his expertise with students at the Maastricht Conservatory. He has performed with every major orchestra in Germany and collaborated with legendary conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach and Marek Janowski, among others.
