Accordi Musicali Academy: Day Two of Cello Masterclasses Builds Momentum in Chieti

4 Jul 2025

The second day of the 2025 Accordi Musicali Academy cello masterclasses continued on July 3rd, as participants settled into their routines and delved deeper into their artistic development under the expert guidance of professors Alexander Chaushian (UK/Armenia) and Marc Coppey (France).

Returning to the picturesque Palazzo dei Veneziani in Chieti, the session offered an inspiring mix of technical refinement, interpretive exploration, and collaborative learning, building on the solid foundations laid during the opening day. Professor Marc Coppey began the morning by working with cellists Leo Levêque and Alexia Sabarros, with the afternoon then seeing another engaging session between Coppey and Kamila Šitinová, who continued to work on her repertoire with notable improvement.

Simultaneously, Professor Alexander Chaushian resumed his work with his students, challenging participants, including Lyana Ulikhanyan and Flora Valila, to reach new heights in their musical journeys.

“I really love the friendly atmosphere here”, Valila said, “I think it's really inspiring to see so many high level musicians here, and the atmosphere is really supportive, which is lovely to experience. I'm taking classes with Alexander Chaushian; I’ve had a few lessons already, and I really enjoyed them. I think he really pushes me to be more detail oriented in my playing, and I found it really inspiring and helpful.”

“I think it's always different to play in a masterclass environment because there is a little bit of nerves involved, and so my performing skills have really improved for me so far”, she continued, “and he’s really helped me in learning how to create an interpretation and how to perform the pieces I'm playing instead of just working on the more technical aspects of it, which has been useful. Chieti is a really inspiring place to have concerts in, and it’s a beautiful town in Italy, so I think it's a wonderful place to be making music in!”

With lessons running throughout the day across the academy’s two teaching rooms, the sense of purpose and passion among the young musicians was palpable. As the sun set over Chieti, the halls of Palazzo dei Veneziani echoed with music, conversation, and anticipation for the weeks to come. The cello masterclasses will continue through July 4th, with a competition for cellists then set to take place from the 6th to the 8th of the month, giving the young musicians a chance to put their abilities to the test and showcase their burgeoning talent.
